Comments Policy: To mod or not to mod?

Right now I have the comments set to moderate. I did it this way so I can filter out adult comments spam and that sort of thing. I prefer a very libertarian approach on who can say what, so no worries there. But I really do not want to start finding nasty porn spam and what not on my blog.

I could opt to turn off moderation and require that people type a word in in order to post but that seems intrusive and sort of puts the burden on the person who wants to post.

What do you think? Would you rather be able to quickly just type in a message and then have it go into a mod area for me to release? Or would you rather it went live right away but you’d have to type in a word each time so the comment spammers couldn’t flood the blog with nasty stuff?

    Hay Jim!

It’s easy enough to delete the sex spam, my blogspot spot doesn’t see too much of it.

I prefer word verification to approval, but it’s your blog. I think doing both is a bit much.

Currently I use haloscan for both comments and trackbacks. I have moderation turned on along with spam filtering. If haloscan ever adds word verification then I will use it over moderation.

I’ve had good experience using word verification on my blog for some time now. It’s a small hassle for the person posting, but oh well

I use Haloscan, and have had minimal problems with comment spam. I find any spam I get is attached to old posts, so it’s no biggie.
