Democrats Raising Taxes in New Hampshire
Well, is anybody surprised? This is what these people do. As soon as they get into power, they immediately seek to take money from taxpayers.
The House Ways and Means Committee yesterday voted to increase the real estate transfer tax to fund the conservation and historic-preservation program known as LCHIP. The committee also voted to raise the tobacco tax 45 cents, to $1.25 a pack, to balance the state budget.
The committed voted 12-5 to approve the real estate tax increase and 12-8 to approve the tobacco tax increase, voting mostly along party lines. Republicans opposed the tax increases as policy measures and also objected to the process; instead of being presented to the House as individual bills, the tax increases will be included in a package of policy changes that will accompany the state budget.
If approved by the Legislature, the real estate transfer tax would rise 30 cents per $1,000 on the sale price for both the buyer and seller, or 60 cents total, to $7.80 per $1,000. That means on a $200,000 home, the buyer and seller would each pay $1,560 in transfer tax, with $120 going to the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program.
I bet there are some New Hampshire residents out there who rue how they voted in the last election. Come on, folks. Wake up and make sure next time that the Democrats are booted out on their asses.
In the meantime, contact your legislators and the governor’s office and register your outrage at these new taxes.

I don’t mind paying taxes so long as I get something out of it.
The republicans on the other hand are for reducing taxes for the wealthiest of our society. They have been raping and bankrupting this country.
Look at the condition of our educational system – reduced funding. Reduced funding for health, fire, police, arts etc.
Another example of this is the foolhardy notion that you can lower taxes during a war (something which has never been done before) and totally uncontrolled spending, something which is traditionally not a republican philosophy.
Bush has taken a buget surplus and tured it into the worst deficit in our country’s history.
You may remember the democrats had a pay as you go philosophy which the Republicans overturned as soon as they were in control of the house.
Many of the rules and laws that the Republicans put into place when there was a Democratic president were promptly removed when Bush became president because as we all know the Republicans are too good to be held to account by there own laws. They are hypocrites!
They have taken away our civil liberties and are attempting to run this country like a monarchy with only the executive branch of goverment holding power.
Hail King Bush. Long live the King!
The problem is that when Nixon was put down a couple of them got away – Cheney and Rumsfeld for example. These people are trying to do what Nixon didn’t finish.
And if you need to look any further to see what has been done to the american people in the name of big business just look at the change of bankruptcy laws and the high (usury) fees allowed to be imposed upon Credit Card users.
The real estate taxes, by the way, are one reason I am avoiding looking for land in NH.
As for the Democrats, and our president, their big problem is the desire to give amnesty for all illegal aliens which I strongly oppose.
No matter who you vote for just keep an open mind and try to be informed.

Davidale,
Your comments didnt really point out anything about what is going on in NH? Just another rant by a kool aid drinking liberal. Same rhetoric, no solution.
So you’re not coming to New Hampshire, David?
Good! Stay in MA or wherever you are. We have enough massholes to deal with up here and we don’t need another one.
Your take on republicans and taxes indicates that you’re a socialist. Please stay where you are.
You wouldn’t like it up here as NH is filled with “evil rednecks with guns” who love to run around shooting everything that moves. Much better if you just avoid our state altogether. :)
