Turkey Hunting Day 8: The Disappearing Turkey and the Clogged Shotgun
I went back this morning to the field where that turkey is and I couldn’t get him to come near me. I think he’s got a hen or two with him so he’s got his hands full apparently. I heard him gobbling a few times though so he’s still over there somewhere.
Worse yet, I had a stupid snafu with my shotgun this morning. I’d gotten up to move and went to unload my shotgun. Well a clod of dirt came out of the action! Needless to say I was not happy and could not stay as it wouldn’t have been safe to shoot it while it was dirty. Some of it must have gotten in the muzzle when I put my shotgun on the ground at some point this morning (the ground is still wet in some parts and the dirt is very loose). Damn it. Now I have to clean it all out of there. What a dumbass!
So I left and went home. But I still had some time before noon so I went back with my bow but the turkey was nowhere to be found. He’s got an odd pattern of disappearing around 7ish or so. I think he takes his hens somewhere and bones em’ all day or something. Well he better enjoy it because I’m going to do my damnedest to get him by the end of the season.
By the way…if we are keeping score, this turkey is completely kicking my ass so far. Damn him.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day! :)
