Blaze Orange, Hunter Safety and Deer Hunting in New Hampshire

I ran into a couple of other hunters a few days ago near where I usually hunt squirrels and turkey near my house. I was somewhat surprised to see them both in camo, head to toe. Neither of them had any blaze orange on at all (I was wearing a blaze orange cap and vest). I didn’t say anything to them about it but I thought about it later and it just struck me as a very bad idea on their part.

The wearing of blaze orange is not mandated for New Hampshire hunters but it is recommended. Blaze orange helps make hunting safer for everybody and, given that it’s gun deer season now, wearing it might help save somebody’s life.

So if you are hunting deer, especially during the time folks are using guns, please be sure to wear blaze orange. It might help save your life or somebody else’s. You can buy a bunch of blaze orange clothing and gear from Cabelas.

Also, if you are a hiker or anyone else who is going to be out in the woods during hunting season then it’s your responsibility to wear clothing that will help hunters see you. Blaze orange is a good idea for everybody in the woods.
