Governor John Lynch’s Budget Problems in New Hampshire
Well is this a surprise to anybody?
Gov. John Lynch warned lawmakers not to pass any spending bills this year, since disappointing revenues have already forced him to start talks on budget cuts.Lynch said he thinks the state will be short about $50 million in revenues, which will force a cut in spending of about 5.7 percent.
The Democrats went wild with spending last year despite being told by numerous people that their numbers were bad and that they were way out of line. A 17% increase in spending that there was no way to pay for and now reality is hitting them in the face and it hurts.
Note how artfully Lynch (who really should be called the Artful Dodger of New Hampshire politics) gets out in front and tries to portray himself as a fiscal conservative. It’s masterful to watch him blame the national economy when the real problem was the wasteful spending of the Democrats.
Are you paying attention New Hampshire? This is what you get when you put Democrats in control of the legislature and what you get when you put one in as governor of the state. No, not all republicans are great either but, on the whole, the republican party has kept New Hampshire freer than most other states over the last 80 years and now that freedom is being eaten away and the state’s prosperity is being damaged by the Democrats.
2008 will be a crucial year in the state’s history. Do we dump these Democrats and restore fiscal sanity while rolling back their initial attempts at a nanny state? Or do we keep them in office and slowly move toward becoming Massachusetts North?
Take your pick, New Hampshire…but choose wisely…
