Global Warming Moonbats At Work in New Hampshire

Well the global warming nuts appear to have a victory here in NH.

A first-in-the-nation regional plan to curb climate change passed the House yesterday. It will move on to the Senate, where the stakeholders expect more fine-tuning of a bill that has taken more than two years to craft.

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative was the Northeast’s answer to a lack of carbon controls on a national level. Nine other states have passed the program, which requires power producers to buy allowances in order to emit carbon. New Hampshire would be the last to join them. The House approved the plan, 214-107.

A study by the University of New Hampshire showed that joining RGGI will cost the state $20 million in 2009 but bring in $17 million in allowance revenue. Not joining will cost $7 million because the states that supply New Hampshire with power have already joined.

Critics of RGGI have argued that projections of the cost to power producers and ratepayers are murky.

Rep. James Garrity, an Atkinson Republican who sits on the committee that worked on the bill, said the Legislature is being pressured into voting for the bill by “carbon fundamentalists.” Their creed, he said: “There is no God but RGGI. Al Gore is its prophet. And human-induced, catastrophic climate change is its doctrine.”

He said he believes in climate change but thinks it may not be dire or caused by humans. The fact that nine other states are participating doesn’t mean New Hampshire should, he said.

Cheers to Rep. Garrity for being the voice of reason here. It seems that that the majority has been indoctrinated by global warming propaganda. Ugh. I hope this can be reversed if we can dump the Democrats in November.
