Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart Suck
I just heard that they don’t want John and Sarah to use their song “Barracuda” in the campaign.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic “Barracuda” as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart’s rep, who says “The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission.”
The statement goes on: “We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored.”
We’re told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.
UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain’s speech with the song, “Barracuda.”
Okay Ann and Nancy, it’s your song but as far as I’m concerned you can take your music and concerts and shove them. I won’t be buying any of your music or attending any more of your concerts. Nor will I buy any other merchandise of yours and I urge others out there to boycott you as well until you lighten up and let the McCain/Palin campaign use your song.
Frankly I’m shocked that you decided to intervene this way in the first place. It doesn’t speak well of either of you that you would apparently try to jam your left-wing politics down the throats of your fans. I had no idea you were liberals nor did I care until you went after Sarah like this.
It’s time for all of us to boycott Heart’s music and products until Ann and Nancy Wilson stop discriminating against the McCain/Palin campaign. Don’t buy Heart’s music and don’t attend their concerts. If they want to be nasty and partisan against John McCain and Sarah Palin then they don’t deserve to get a dime of our money.

It’s their song and they feel Palin does not represent their views. If that’s the case, they have every right to speak out against the way its being used.

It’s amazing how celebrities are so quick to alienate half their fans. Why, just because they have talent, do they feel they have a need to sway our opinion in their direction? Talent does not translate to smarts. I too loved hearts’ music but now have a bad taste in my mouth and will indeed join a boycott.
I agree with Heart. They have every right to ask the RNC to not play their music. Especially if they do not agree with Sarah Palin views. Americans judge politicians, musicians, actors/actresses, etc… by who they associate with. Just like everyone was judging Obama for associating with his Pastor! If Heart does not want to be associated with the RNC, then they have every right. If you guys are childish enough to say you’re going to ban heart and not buy their cds and tickets because you do not agree with them, so be it. I’m sure Ann and Nancy Wilson is not going to lose any sleep over it!
Heart who? They BEST hang onto their old song rights…. I haven’t heard anything new from them in like say, 30 years….
The Wilson sisters have just put themselves at the same petty classless level as the Dixie Chicks. Their music is so old, should be public domain anyway, but they have just ensured that many of us will never pay a dime for a download. I am shredding my CDs and deleting my MP3s
HEART (sisters Ann & Nancy Wilson) has every right to "protect" their song! It is their right to not want to be associated with a political party.
They are talented musicians, still on tour, still producing new music. Check out Ann Wilson's new CD "Hope And Glory" about social conciseness. LOVE RULES!
BTW: Their father was a General in the U.S. Marines.
Ann and Nancy are Americans. They should be allowed to exercise their freedom of speech.
Go ahead…burn their CDs. For every right-wing fan that they lose, they will gain another fan that supports artists who actually stand for something.
Fans of quality appreciate artists of quality.
Anyone who is supporting the Republicans after the debacle of the last 8 years hasn't taken a good look at the way America appears on the world stage.
Just my 2 cents. Oh, and Ann & Nancy: I have more respect for you now than I have ever had. This from a life-long listener. I am actually looking forward to whatever you release next, because I'm sure it will be an intelligent artistic response to the idiocy of what you are experiencing now. Canada (and what's left of smart America) still loves you!
Appropriate license fees were paid, Heart is pissing up a rope and making themselves and anyone who agrees with them look stupid. Look up ASCAP and begin the path to getting a clue. McCain should/will rape them legally by allowing them to pursue the issue, then the judge will say no law has been broken and they will realize they should have never opened their mouths. America loving people will laugh.
If I’m not mistaken, music copyrights are good for 17 years. That song has to be a lot older than that. Heart still has the right to ask, and McCain/Palin have the right to agree or disagree with the request.
