New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Under Attack

The UL has a story this morning about the Fish and Game department being under attack in Concord. I sent an email this morning to the folks on the House Fish and Game Committee.

The state’s Fish and Game Commission is bracing for a battle to keep power.

An audit of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department this year has recommended that the Legislature explore whether the commission should become advisory-only and lose its policy-setting power, including approval of financial transfers, rules-setting and strategic oversight.

“They are trying to do away with the commission, is that blunt enough?” said Fish and Game Commissioner Bob Rowan of Sandwich, who represents Carroll County on the 12-member commission.

Please take a moment to contact the members of the House Fish and Game Committee and let them know that you do not want the Fish and Game commission to be made into an “advisory board” and that you do not want the name changed from Fish and Game to Fish and Wildlife.

The first change would put the power of managing the department into the legislature (who don’t have the time or expertise to properly do it) and the name change would cost the taxpayers of NH money as signs, uniforms, etc. would have to be changed.

Here’s a list of email addresses for you to send an email to:

Let’s put a stop to this nonsense before it goes any further and the legislators in Concord begin wasting taxpayer money and start negatively affecting the management of New Hampshire Fish and Game.
