Voter Fraud in New Hampshire
Gardner’s comments do NOT make me feel better. Not at all.
Secretary of State William Gardner acknowledges that New Hampshire’s voting security system is not airtight, but he insists it is among the best in the country.Gardner said this week the state benefits because it is exempt from the National Voter Registration Act and because one must appear in person to register to vote before local election officials.
He acknowledged a “tension that has existed for a long time between the safe, secure integrity of our elections versus the constitutional right of being able to have access to voting.”
“There always can be the perfect crime,” said Gardner. “But we’re different because if you’re going to commit fraud, it’s more difficult to do it in front of a government official than it is some guy you know who’s getting paid for everyone he can get to sign.
It seems clear that same day registration needs to go away permanently. Why do we even have it? Are people so lazy or stupid that they can’t register before the election? We don’t have elections every single day so there’s plenty of time in between elections to get registered.
And a state issued ID such as a driver’s license or other valid ID should be required to vote. If we don’t know who you are you have no right to vote in a New Hampshire state election.
One of the top priorities of the new legislature should be a review of voting requirements.
