Why I Love Flu-Flu Arrows!
A few days ago I googled “bow hunting pheasants” and found a video of a guy trying to shoot pheasants with a bow.
The guy in the video misses most times but finally does bag one with his bow. And he was using flu-flu arrows while he was hunting those birds.
I hadn’t even heard of a flu-flu arrow (being a relative neophyte to using a bow) so I went to my local archery store and had 6 arrows made up. They have large yellow feathers that slow down their flight. I tested them by shooting at a stationary target and then shooting one up into the air at an angle.
It was quite cool to hear the noise they make when moving through the air toward the stationary target. And it was very neat to see the arrow slow down in mid-air and then drop to the ground. I don’t have video or pics of it but I may take some next time and add them to this entry later.
I doubt very much that I’ll ever be able to take a pheasant or grouse or whatever with a flu-flu arrow (maybe a squirrel?) but they are awesome to have and use. And given the cost of arrows it’s critical that you have something to slow down the arrow so you don’t lose it. Arrows can go very, very far and it’s quite easy to lose one if you are shooting up into the air (or even if you aren’t).
Here’s a guy doing some cool shots with flu-flu arrows:
