Gun Deer Season 2008 in New Hampshire

Well it seems to be off to a good start. I went walking around today near the area where I was pheasant hunting a week or so ago. I drove my truck further in though and went walking around. As I was going down a path I saw another hunter coming up the path.

I stopped to chat with him and it seems that he and some others were out hunting deer. I didn’t see them as they were apparently further down the path and then across the road. We chatted briefly and I wished him luck.

I had on my blaze orange hat and blaze orange sweatshirt. Needless to say if you are out in the woods at this time of year it’s a REALLY good idea to have blaze orange clothing on. You just don’t know who is out there hunting for deer and your chance of getting shot is higher in gun deer season than in archery season for obvious reasons.

As I was leaving I noticed a guy walking his dog. The guy had on dark clothing and neither he nor his pet had a shred of blaze orange on. Dummies. I thought about going to talk to him but he was way up the path already and I couldn’t drive my truck up there as there was a gate that was closed.

Seriously though, it was stupid of him to be in the woods with an animal without either of them having some kind of blaze orange on. If you don’t have some then steer clear of the woods or go and buy yourself some.
