Republicans in New Hampshire: Will They Recover?
The pubbies are trying to figure out how to get back in power.
I’m not sure there’s much that they can do right now. The Bush administration is going to have to fade away into history a bit before the Republican brand is going to recover. Here in NH, like it or not, the state party has been unfairly lumped in with Bush and his administration’s record.
That’s silly, of course, because Republicans at the state level do not vote on American foreign policy, the federal budget or any other national issue. But Republicans here were hammered in 2006 over national issues and Bush was still a drag on Republicans (although they did pick up 17 seats in the House here in NH so some progress was made).
Anyway, the gist of this is that the Republicans will recover in NH eventually. But it’s going to take time.
For my part I want to see a more socially libertarian type party with strict fiscal conservatism. I’m not sure if that’s the direction the party will go in but here’s to hoping it will.
