Last night was Taproom Tuesday for Free Staters at Murphy’s. My mom is up visiting so I thought it would be fun to bring her there. I didn’t tell her where we were going, I just started driving up there. At first she wasn’t very happy once we got there as we had to walk down the street and she didn’t bring her hat or scarf. She thought it was cold but, hey, that will teach her to bring them with her. Heh, heh.

We got inside and sat down to order. She loosened up and we started chatting with people. Free Staters are very friendly people so it’s quite easy to start up a conversation. Michael Hampton, the guy who runs the Homeland Stupidity site, introduced us to Jason Sorens (the guy who started the whole Free State Project). So my mom got to actually meet the guy who thought the whole thing up. He turned out to be a very nice guy and we had a fun chat.

At one point it occurred to me to let my mom know that people might have guns on their belts. By that point she had already noticed and she told me later that she figured “Okaaaaaaaaaaaay, they seem like nice people.” She lives in Taxachusetts so of course she doesn’t see anybody but cops with guns on their hips. But she was quite cool with it and she finally noticed that I had my pistol on my hip too. Yep, I had put it on right before we left the house and she didn’t notice it until I took my coat off and we were there for a while.

She had a really fun time at Murphy’s with the Christmas tree, the sound and all the great people. She ordered a couple of glasses of wine and by the end of our time there she was in a merry mood and chatted my ear off all the way home. It was good to see her having fun and Taproom Tuesday at Murphy’s was a nice place for her to meet some great people.
